America is heading in the only direction it can
Regarding: “Sees America as heading in the wrong direction” (Dec. 17 T.O. Acorn ), oh, goodie, another letter by Mike Di Fatta! This one attempts to take me and others to task with disconnected logic and nonsensical prose.
That our country is headed in the wrong direction is a matter of opinion devoid of fact, the causes of that perceived course a subject for debate, but there should be no confusion regarding facts, unless one refuses to open one’s mind or educate oneself and not accept the pablum that certain media dishes as sacrosanct.
For example, polling is as much an art as it is a science. It is dynamic, changing.
Depending on sample size, the phrasing of the question, how the question is asked and the societal strata of which is asked, the result can be different.
The Rasmussen Poll is a “robo-poll,” an automated, daily poll that asks respondents to punch keys on their telephone as they answer questions. So, Mr. Di Fatta, to cite this poll is like saying “December was a rainy month” based on three days of rain. Disingenuous.
As for healthcare, Mr. Di Fatta: Please, do some independent research. Turn off Fox “News” and read . If you can, use the Internet, and you’ll begin to see that just the opposite of what you maintain is true.
Our current health financing system is predominately employer-based. Lose your job, lose your coverage.
Premium co-pays and deductibles have been increasing at an alarming rate as more of the cost burden shifts to the patient. And that’s guaranteed to continue unless something changes.
The percentage of GDP that healthcare consumes has also been steadily rising, and that, too, is guaranteed to continue unless, you guessed it, something changes.
No opinion. Just facts.
Regarding government’s role in an economy, read a little about fiscal and monetary policy before proffering such madness that “government doesn’t create growth.”
Unfortunately, the constraints imposed by the editor forbid me from addressing all your points, but I hope that any letters sent to my home will be signed.
