D.A. gets funds to prosecute DNA cases
The Ventura County district attorney’s office will receive $570,000 over two years to investigate and prosecute cold cases involving DNA in the county.
The grant comes from the fiscal year 2010 Federal Consolidated Appropriations Act and is aimed at reviewing cold homicide cases that occurred in Ventura County dating back to 1970 for the presence of DNA evidence.
The program will expand the district attorney’s ability to assemble a specialized team of two investigators and a veteran prosecutor to review cold homicide cases for the presence of significant DNA evidence and advance those cases to prosecution.
