La Reina, Oaks well represented in All-TVL teams
The Tri-Valley League announced its All-League selections for 2009 fall sports season.
First- and second-team athletes from local schools are listed below.
Football
Decorated Oaks Christian seniors Malcolm Jones and Nick Montana shared co-most valuable player honors on offense.
Teammates Cassius Marsh and Erik Kohler were the defensive and lineman MVPs, respectively.
Lions Alani Fua, Zachary Stout, Jordan Payton, Max Napolitano, Brian Fifita and Blair Holliday were on the first team.
Oak Park’s Conner Phillips, Trevor Montano, Alex Leparulo, Tyler Benton, Gilad Klibanov and Nick Rogers also made the first team.
Trey Smith, Dakota Peterson, Silas Goma, Dillon van der Wal, Ronny Camacho, Austin Carey, Carlos Mendoza and Weston Denham earned second-team spots for Oaks Christian.
Eagles Brad Taylor, Matt Carson, Cody Bathke, Aiki Zapata and Forret Findsen also made the second team.
Girls’ tennis
La Reina sophomore Hilary West was named the most valuable singles player in the Tri-Valley League.
Terra Bjerken was named to the singles first team while fellow Regents Nikki Anaya and Gabby Stevens shared doubles first-team nods.
Second-team athletes are Malani MacRae and Mackenzie Kalantari of Oaks Christian; Annie Shao and Laurel Rodewald of La Reina; and Oak Park’s Mina Saffarian, Camille Fagan, Rachel Schall and Danielle Rosove.
La Reina’s Bowie Hahn and Bernadette Perttula of Oaks Christian shared coach of the year honors.
Girls’ volleyball
La Reina standouts Madeline Rumer and Katherine Workman were named co-MVPs.
Teammate Kristin Wendel made the first team, along with Oak Park’s Rachel Gam and Lauren Varney, and Oaks Christian’s Kim Koros and Tara Robinson.
La Reina’s Sara Anselmo and Melissa Bloomgren made the second team. They were joined by Michele Boskovich and Christina Nelson of Oaks Christian, and Eagle Kielie Tamiyasu.
OCHS’ George Hees was the coach of the year.
Girls’ cross country
Sarah Pearson of La Reina was the MVP while her coach, Robert Lopez, snagged coach of the year honors.
The Regents’ Rachel Brajkovich made the first team while teammates Katie Kavetsky and Kelly Reinke made the second team.
Oak Park’s Kaycee Holcomb, Taelor Young and Jessica Reints made the first team, while Brittany Stalzer and Meira Prescher made the second team.
Oaks Christian runners Fallon Cislo (first team), Cristi Garcia (second) and Niki MacWhirter (second) were also honored.
Boys’ cross country
Oak Park runner Blake Minasian was MVP.
Eagles Scott Frey, Omer Levy, Ryan Zelada and Jake Lowry were on the first team with Lions Vince Colarossi and Ryan Huning.
Asaf Kraus and Patrick Thedinga of Oak Park made the second team with OCHS’ Derek Stoutland and Taylor Losi.
Oak Park’s Kevin Smith is coach of the year.
Girls’ golf
Remy Molyneux of Oaks Christian was named MVP.
First-team choices are Makenna Cox and JoJo Sottile of La Reina; and Tiffany Meinert and Taylor Stucky of Oaks Christian.
Second-team players are Oaks Christian’s Nicole Pelino and La Reina’s Mary Pfaff and Kirsten Mosesson.
Boys’ water polo
Oaks Christian’s Jet Reich is MVP of the league.
Teammates Travis Radke and Alec Follmer made the first team, while Lions Cole Baratte and Matt Gonzalez earned secondteam spots.
