Oak Park man hooked on serving his community

Toy drive under way at local businesses

George Annino of Oak Park is hooked on giving. After 29 years, Annino turned over the full operation of the Santa Comes to Agoura and Beyond food drive to the Westlake Junior Women’s Club, but he couldn’t help getting involved in spreading some holiday cheer by organizing toy drives around town.

`“Now that I’m away from the food drive I want to do something else,” Annino said.

The toy drives have been in full swing for two weeks, but there’s still time for residents to bring new, unwrapped toys to a variety of drop-off locations:

•California Do-it Center, Agoura Hills.

•First Federal Bank of California, Agoura Hills.

•Westlake Independent Acura and Honda, Westlake Village.

The toys will be delivered to the children’s ward at the City of Hope and Childrens Hospital, both in Los Angeles. Some of the toys, he said, may go to children who are battling leukemia.

“If you can put a smile on a child’s face and give them hope, that’s what it’s all about,” Annino said.

Local Girl Scout troops may have toy drives at local markets, he said.
