New mayor to be sworn in on Tuesday
A new Thousand Oaks mayor and a mayor pro tem will be selected by the City Council during its reorganization meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tues., Dec. 8.
Mayor Tom Glancy will be replaced by another council member. Most often, the position goes to the current mayor pro tem, a title now held by Councilmember Dennis Gillette.
But the selection of the two city officials is at the discretion of the City Council, city spokesperson Andrew Powers said.
“A guess by staff would just be speculation,” he said.
Before the new mayor and mayor pro tem are announced, presentations will be made to honor the outgoing mayor.
“So far, we’ve received RSVPs for presentations from the Chamber of Commerce and Tony Strickland’s office,” Powers said on Monday.
More are expected, he said.
Immediately after the City Council meeting will be a reception in the foyer just outside council chambers in the Scherr Forum Theatre, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.
Fresh fruit and desserts including cheesecake squares, sevenlayer bars, pumpkin streusel bars and chocolate flourless cake will be served, Powers said. A coffee bar will also have sparkling cider, water and assorted teas.
The public is invited to the meeting and to the reception following it.
