Jazz vespers for Advent will be presented at 5 p.m. Sun., Dec. 6 at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 280 Royal Ave., Simi Valley. The public is invited.

Vespers is an evening service of prayer, scripture, meditation and music. The Rev. Norm Freeman will perform jazz instrumental pieces on the vibraphone.

Following the services, appetizers will be served. A silent auction of gift cards and baskets will take place as a fundraiser for the church.

Freeman is the vicar of The Church of St. Michael and All Angels in Isla Vista and a chaplain at UC Santa Barbara. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from The Juilliard School. Freeman has performed professionally with the New York Philharomic, The Moody Blues, Barbara Streisand, the Metropolitan Opera, Rick Wakeman and Barry White.

Freeman won a Grammy award as percussionist on the New York Philharmonic’s recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 In D Minor.
