New officers installed at yacht club
The Westlake Yacht Club installed its 2010 officers on Nov. 21 at the clubhouse in Westlake Village. At the helm for the new year are new flag officers Commodore Ed Jefferson, Vice Commodore Rob Schaefer and Rear Commodore Brian Rackohn. Rose Jeffery will continue as secretary, and Walt Jefford will continue as treasurer.
Westlake Yacht Club celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. In June the club was awarded the 2009 Best of Thousand Oaks Award by the U.S. Commerce Association. The award recognizes local businesses for their quality. Winners are determined based on information gathered both internally by the association and data provided by third parties.
The club sponsors Westlake community activities annually and also hosts the annual Around the Island Race and Pancake Breakfast every Fourth of July and the Parade of Lights and Community Party every December to support Toys for Tots with Santa’s appearance. The club also sponsored Zac Sunderland’s solo sailing trip around the world last year.
The club hosts regattas on the lake on Sunday sights. The junior sailing program teaches sailing to children age 9 and older every summer.
The facilities are available to the community for weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, showers and other social events. For rental information, call Gene Morrow at (818) 991-4228.
