A funeral for Taylor Moss, 19, will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Nov. 20, at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 2475 Borchard Road, Newbury Park.

Moss died after a collision on the 101 Freeway in Encino just after 2 a.m. Nov. 1 as she and two girlfriends were driving home from a Hollywood teen dance club on Halloween night.

“We are hoping to have all those who knew Taylor in the community be aware of her service and attend,” her aunt, Shannon McNett, said.

A June graduate of Newbury Park High School, Moss was attending Moorpark College in her quest to become an elementary school teacher.

Moss had established herself as an organ donor and gave the gift of life to three organ recipients. Her family didn’t want to know which organs the young woman donated.

Her friends are recovering at their homes. One has a broken arm and had glass removed from one eye; the other has a broken clavicle, McNett said.

Simi Valley resident Hector J. Ortiz, 27, was arrested at the crash scene near White Oak Avenue on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing death and injury. According to the California Highway Patrol, he was driving his car the wrong way after entering an exit on the 101 Freeway. He’s been released on bail.

Moss’ family had to wait for the Los Angles County coroner’s office to release her remains while the accident was under investigation, McNett said.

Moss was very close to her family and spent a lot of time with her brother and her cousin, both 16, and her grandparents, who also live in Newbury Park.

“She loved to cook for us. She was a sweet and loving person,” her aunt said.

Moss’ mother, Jacqueline, 49, just left the hospital on Monday after undergoing lifesaving surgery last week for a bowel obstruction, McNett said.

To help with expenses, a memorial fund has been set up in Taylor Moss’ name at Bank of America. Checks can be sent to Taylor Moss Memorial Fund c/o Pamela Zegers, 2735 Kelly Knoll Lane, Newbury Park CA 91320.
