2009-11-05 / Dining & Entertainment

The first Ventura County DUI Prevention Summit will be from 8 a.m. to noon today, Nov. 5, at Ventura Beach Marriott Hotel, 2055 Harbor Blvd., Ventura.

The summit will present facts about impaired driving, identify risks associated with alcohol sales, investigate strategies to reduce problems and coordinate communitywide efforts to reduce deaths related to impaired driving.

The program is presented by the Ventura County Behavioral Health Department.

According to the department, more than 1,500 fatalities result from alcohol-related auto collisions in California each year, and alcohol is involved in the deaths of more youths than all other drugs combined, by a 4-1 ratio.

Among the officials attending the summit will be Ventura County Supervisor Steve Bennett; Tina Pasco, regional director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving; and Dr. Javier Romero, trauma director at Ventura County Medical Center.
