Local runners shine at Mt. SAC Sara Pearson of La Reina nabbed first place during the girls’ Division IV cross country team sweepstakes race at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational last weekend. Pearson won the 2.91-mile race in 18 minutes, 27 seconds— nine seconds faster than the second-place finisher. The senior helped the Regents take third place overall at the prestigious event. Teammate Rachel Brajkovich was 14th overall in 19:54. Katie Kavetsky (21st), Kelly Reinke (31st), Maija Ehlinger (48th), Mary Thompson (64th) and Lauren Hearne (65th) also raced well for La Reina. Fallon Cislo (18th, 20:04) was Oaks Christian’s top finisher. The Lions finished 13th. Niki Macwhirter (41st), Megan Huning (70th), Kahala Bonsignore (81st), Amy Anderson (88th), Madagan Riley (90th) and Jackie Brody (91st) all competed for Oaks Christian. OCHS’ boys finished 12th in the Division IV team sweepstakes race. Vincent Colarossi (17:04) and Ryan Huning (17:05) were 26th and 27th, respectively. The Newbury Park boys’ team took fifth overall in the Division II race. Sean Grumney was second in 15:33. Teammate Talmage Jones nabbed fifth in 15:47. Kevin Joerger of Thousand Oaks won the race in 15:19. The Lancer girls took eighth in the Division II race. Rachael Adams led the way with a 23rdplace finish in 19:49. Nicki Ghazarian led Westlake with a fifth-place finish, completing the course in 18:56. Newbury Park’s girls finished seventh in the Division II race. Rachel Ranucci took eighth place by finishing in 20 minutes. |
