School district extends its hiring freeze

      The Conejo Valley Unified School District board approved a hiring freeze in the district for the second year in a row to save money. Jeff Baarstad, deputy superintendent of business services, said that last year’s freeze saved the district as much as $1.7 million.

Poker tournament to feature dinner, auction and prizes
      The Newbury Park High School Football Boosters will host a Texas Hold ’em poker tournament on Sat., Nov. 7 at the Thousand Oaks Inn, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner, cash bar and silent auction. The tournament will be played from 6 to 11:30 p.m.

Auction, dinner to benefit La Reina
      The La Reina High School Parent Guild will host the 26th annual dinner and auction on Sat., Nov. 7 at the school campus, 106 W. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. “Home is Where the Heart Is” will benefit the students through academic and activities enrichment, technology upgrades, tuition assistance and campus improvements.
