November art show will open
      The Thousand Oaks Art Association Membership Show will run from Nov. 3 through 27 at the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery, 2331 Borchard Road, Newbury Park The hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day except Mondays and holidays. A reception, open to the public, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed., Nov. 4. Artist awards will be presented at that time.

T.O. man dances on TV
      Mark Dacascos is known as “The Chairman” and host of Food Network’s “Iron Chef America.” Many Thousand Oaks residents know him as their neighbor. Dacascos and his wife, Julie, have lived in Thousand Oaks for 12 years. They have three children, a Lab-Akita-mix dog and a love for their community.

      The Toastmasters Club No. 1934 meets weekly from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays in the Oak Room, Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. Attend a Spooktacular in Dos Vientos
      All ages are invited to the second annual Spooktacular Halloween Party from 1 to 3 p.m. Sat., Oct. 31 at Treat Sweets in Paraíso at Dos Vientos Ranch, 360 Via Las Brisas, Ste. 160, Newbury Park. The event will have free crafts, face painting and a costume contest at 2:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for most creative, funniest, best group, and other categories.
