Manna food bank has new director
      Manna had to look no further for a new executive director when it met Mike Mathews. Right after the local food bank’s board of directors selected Mathews, he was at the food bank becoming familiar with the system and making mental notes on how he could streamline everything. “I want to make everything run more efficiently,” Mathews said.

Poverty rate 8.4 percent in county
The city of Thousand Oaks had the lowest poverty rate in Ventura County with 3.8 percent
      One in 12 Ventura County residents lived in poverty last year, according to a recent report from the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy. The alliance, a public policy research center for Ventura and Santa Barbara counties that was established in 2001, compiled its report on poverty rates for cities with 65,000 or more residents.

Civil War reenactments coming to Moorpark
      Battle plans are being drawn for the ninth annual “The Blue and the Gray” Civil War reenactments organized by the Rotary Club of Moorpark. The fighting will take place Sat. and Sun., Nov. 7 and 8 at the Tierra Rejada Ranch on Sunset Valley Road in Moorpark.

     After years of acrimonious relations with its current Chamber of Commerce, Agoura Hills is considering changing its alliance and starting a new business relationship with the Thousand Oaks-Westlake Village Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Reagan Library celebrates 20th anniversary of Berlin Wall coming down in Germany
     Twenty years ago next month, the Berlin Wall fell in Germany. First built in 1961 and more than 87 miles long, the concrete barrier that encircled West Berlin was called an “anti-fascist protection barrier” by the East German regime and a “scar” by President Ronald Reagan.
