Discovery Center debuts season

The Discovery Center for Science and Technology debuts the second season of its Science Speaker Series, “Science Everyone Can Understand,” with T e r r y Murphy, president of SolarReserve Inc., discussing “Energy for the 21st Century” from 7:30 to 9 p.m. tonight, Oct. 15, at Baxter BioSciences, 1 Baxter Way, Westlake Village.

As the price of oil rises, America’s dependence on foreign suppliers increases. Because the burning of fossil fuels is believed to contribute to climate change, citizens have been encouraged to

use cleaner, renewable sources of energy. Murphy, who recently testified before Congress on the subject, will describe the pros and cons of new sources and show what the nation’s energy portfolio could look like at the end of the century.

The lecture is for adults and mature teenagers. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors, teachers and students.
