Hospice trains Conejo volunteer

The nonprofit Hospice of the Conejo will conduct the fall community volunteer training program from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, starting Sept. 30 at the hospice office in Thousand Oaks.

Applicants must submit to an interview and background screening. The cost for the training is $50.

The eight-week educational program prepares individuals to deal compassionately and sensitively with endoflife issues by providing them with knowledge and skills serve to the terminally ill and their loved ones before, during and after the dying process.

Volunteers may also assist professional therapists in grief support groups, help in the office or participate in special projects.

Volunteers may hold a hand, listen, read, write a letter, run errands, walk a dog or provide respite when a family member needs a break. Volunteers keep in contact with the family and friends after their loved one has died to provide bereavement support.

Hospice of the Conejo serves the Conejo and Simi Valleys and surrounding areas.
