Fashion, shopping, gourmet food to surround literary discussion

Assistance League of Conejo Valley will present a combined fashion, literary and shopping event called Books and Looks on Wed., Oct. 21 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village.

The doors will open at 9 a.m. with coffee served. Guests may shop at specialty boutiques featuring gourmet food items, jewelry, fashions and holiday gifts.

Luncheon will be served in the grand ballroom. Lisa See, author of the new book “Shanghai Girls,” will present a literary discussion.

See’s family portrait, “On Gold Mountain,” was the inspiration for a special exhibition at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, and the film rights have been acquired for her novels “Peony in Love” and “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.”

During dessert, the Ventura boutique California & Main will present a runway fashion show of after-5 attire. After the show guests may continue shopping until 3 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the philanthropic programs of Assistance League, which serves the Conejo Valley, Simi Valley and Moorpark. The league is an allvolunteer, nonprofit organization whose members gave more than 13,000 hours last year serving children and adults in need.

Tickets are available to groups and individuals for $85 per person. For reservations, visit www.ALCV.net or call Assistance League at (805) 379-5686.
