Writer was wrong about his plan

I’m writing to you to address the totally incorrect claim made by a Mr. Tom Graves of Newbury Park in your Sept. 3 issue (“Public enemy No. 1 is America’s health insurance firms”).

The “Critical Condition Protection” he wrote about is only offered on Blue Shield’s Shield Individual Spectrum PPO Plan 5000. It’s an “additional benefit” on the policy which pays a onetime benefit of $10,000 if the insured develops one of the listed conditions.

This is in addition to the regular provisions of the policy, which offers full protection for all medical conditions up to a lifetime payment of $6 million.

Mr. Graves is either totally misinformed about his son’s Blue Shield policy or failed to ask the agent he purchased his son’s policy through to fully explain it.

His claim is not only misleading it’s 100 percent incorrect. Chris Russo Westlake Village
