Previous letter writer an expert in too many fields
As a citizen of this community, I was elated to learn in a Sept. 3 letter to the editor by a Mr. Bob Meisterling that among us is an individual with expertise in various areas, including “the squandering of taxpayers’ money” on what he describes as “half-baked” redistribution of taxpayer funds on wealthy programs (whatever they might be).
He also presented himself as having outstanding knowledge of the citizens of L.A. County’s reduction of water and electricity consumption, and he feels that the citizens of Ventura County are also doing the same, which he opines will increase our utility rates. I am indeed impressed with his vast field of knowledge.
Lastly, Meisterling presented himself as an expert in the area of local law enforcement.
In that respect he takes umbrage with the manner in which our outstanding sheriff’s department enforces the law relative to motor vehicles.
Meisterling stated in his letter that he has observed a Ventura County traffic enforcement motorcycle officer “hiding in the bushes” on one of our welltraveled roadways while monitoring the actions of motorists traversing that thoroughfare.
In Meisterling’s expert opinion, the safety and protection of our citizens would be better served without the “harassment” of traffic enforcement and, instead, focus police activities on other crimes.
I would presume that he has the facts to prove that traffic enforcement doesn’t assist in the prevention of sometimes serious and lifethreatening traffic accidents.
I would assume that Meisterling has the knowledge that the stopping of some traffic offenders doesn’t reveal that they are wanted for various felony offenses.
Lastly, it’s reassuring to note that Meisterling is able to operate a motor vehicle and still take the time to observe the size of an officer’s butt. Gary Farnham Newbury Park
