Enforcement of traffic laws is vitally important
In response to Mr. Meisterling’s Sept. 3 letter (“Cops should have higher priorities than writing tickets”), although I understand why he’s disgruntled over government spending, I object to his comments about cops.
First of all, I think it’s immature to describe someone by using words like “fat rear end.”
That cop has to sit out there on his motorcycle in 100-degree weather, when it’s raining or cold, and the reason he has to sit out there is because disrespectful people disobey the laws.
I see mothers, with children in their cars, who are on cellphones, eating, doing their hair—all the while driving over the speed limit! I live off Lynn Road, and there are so many accidents because of speeders.
I have a teenager who just started driving, and I’m not worried about her driving but the irresponsible people on the road. They’re the reason that cop is sitting out there in the first place.
Do you remember the grandma who was killed on T.O. Boulevard by a mother who sped through a red light? What if that was your mother?
Mr. Meisterling, I hope you aren’t a teacher or, worse, a parent, because you don’t set a good example for our youth.
Cops have a tough job, and they deserve more respect, sir. Valerie Ellner Newbury Park
