Woman arrested in connection with felonies

Newbury Park resident Elizabeth Ann Jones, 43, has been arrested and charged with felonies that include grand theft, forgery and computer fraud. She was also charged with an aggravated white collar crime enhancement.

Jones worked for 18 years as a bookkeeper for Conejo Valley Women’s Group, a medical practice.

In December 2008 her employer discovered suspicious purchases paid for with company funds, according to Senior Dep. District Attorney Marc Leventhal.

This led to an audit of company checks issued since 2002, which revealed that Jones had allegedly forged and issued hundreds of company checks to herself and her creditors as well as to creditors of family members.

Her employment was terminated. She is alleged to have stolen more than $950,000, Leventhal said.   Jones was arrested on Sept. 10 after an investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. She was released from custody after posting a $30,000 bail bond. Her arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 18 in Ventura County Superior Court.

If convicted on all charges, Jones faces a maximum sentence of nine years, four months in state prison.
