Valencia (0-0) at
Thousand Oaks (0-0)
Outlook: Now this is one heck of a way to start off the football season at TOHS.
Valencia is ranked second— behind St. Bonaventure—in the latest CIF-Southern Section Northern Division poll.
The Lancers are No. 10 in the same poll but do have history on their side after beating Valencia in last year’s opener.
Running back Rocky Maldonado and wideout Zach Tartabull form a dangerous onetwo punch for Valencia. The revamped TOHS defense will have its hands full with those two.
For the Lancers, junior quarterback Avondre Bollar faces a stiff test in his first start. A win here could mean big things are ahead.
Muir (0-1) at Oaks Christian (1-0)
Outlook: The Lions won a tough season opener at Alemany 2817 behind a 277yard threetouchdown performance by senior running back Malcolm Jones.
Muir, meanwhile, lost its opener versus Diamond Ranch, 35-20.
With a deep, talentladen roster, Oaks Christian is expected to make a run at a state bowl bid.
In the latest MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings, the Lions were ninth in the nation and second in the state, behind Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks.
OCHS hammered Muir 43-14 in last year’s meeting, and there’s no reason Lion fans shouldn’t expect another 50 points in this tilt. Oaks Christian’s defense had four interceptions in that game.
