Newbury Park Rotary will bring Oktoberfest to Underwood Farms
AUTUMN TRADITION–The Newbury Park Rotary Club will present its 23rd annual Oktoberfest from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Sept. 26 and 27 at Underwood Family Farms, 3370 Sunset Valley Road in Moorpark. Take the 23 Freeway exit at Tierra Rejada and follow the signs for a full day of authentic German music, dancing and food. The cost is $10 for general admission, kids under age 2 are free. The Newbury Park Rotary Club will present its 23rd annual Oktoberfest from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Sept. 26 and 27 at Underwood Family Farms, 3370 Sunset Valley Road, Moorpark.
The event will have authentic German music, dancing and food. New this year is the BrewFest Beer Garden, featuring traditional Oktoberfest German brews along with selections from California microbreweries.
Food for sale includes the Pillar Giant Pretzel, sauerkraut, strudel and Simi Valley Rotary’s bratwurst booth.
Both days will feature bestdressed Bavarian costume and stein-holding contests. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Also new this year is the Wine Pavilion, featuring wine tastings from some of California’s top wine makers.
Live bands include Die Gemuetlichen Schuhplattler, traditional Bavarian dance troupe; Akkordion Freunde, nine-piece Bavarian band; the LA Blue Birds, Oktoberfest and pop standards; Joel Larson & Company, rock, R&B and jazz featuring original members of the Grass Roots and Counting Crows, and Floyd & the Flyboys, R&B and jazz.
Family activities at Underwood Farms are a petting zoo, giant sling shot, pick-your-own pumpkins, pig races, animal talks and mining for gold and gems.
More than 25 craft booths will display their wares. Oktoberfest commemorative items will be for sale.
Attendees will have the chance to win a Vespa S-150 scooter. Tickets for $20 are on sale. The winner will be announced at the event at 6 p.m. Sun., Sept. 27. The winner need not be present to win.
Admission cost is $10 for adults. Children under age 2 are free. Discount tickets and group sales are available online. Each ticket includes a free hayride and a trek through a corn maze. Parking is free. Admission is free for active duty military with ID.
Since its inception, Oktoberfest has raised more than $400,000 for local charities.
