T.O. man guilty of insurance fraud

Ismael Martin Santos, 24, of Thousand Oaks was recently sentenced after having pleaded guilty to felony auto insurance fraud. He was placed on formal felony probation for three years and ordered to serve 60 days in Ventura County Jail and make $150 restitution to Access General Insurance Company.

At 6 p.m. March 12, Santos reported to the Thousand Oaks Police Department that his 2000 Ford Expedition was stolen from an Albertsons’ parking lot. Santos said he and his wife arrived at the market that evening at 5 p.m., parked in the lot, and that the vehicle was missing when they returned to the lot after shopping.

On March 13, Santos filed a claim for the loss with his insurance carrier, Access General. Later that same day, the company had been notified that Santos’ vehicle was impounded in Tijuana, Mexico, on March 9.
