Conejo Valley YMCA groups plan events

The Conejo Valley YMCA kicks off a new year of Indian Guides and Princesses with two events for parents and children.

A free barbecue will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sun., Sept. 13, and a Raingutter Regatta is set from 1 to 3 p.m. Sun., Sept. 27. Both events take place at the main Conejo YMCA facility, 4031 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.

Parents and children wanting to learn more about the Indian Guides program are encouraged to attend. They will also be able to swim in the YMCA’s pool.

Indian Guides and Princesses offer activities for parents and their children such as camping, hiking, singing and crafts.

Small groups of parents and their sons or daughters meet once a month from September through June at members’ homes or other locations. Activities range from storytelling, games, arts and crafts to an annual pinewood derby, spring, fall and winter camps, Coastal Cleanup Day, Sycamore Canyon bike and barbecue and field trips.

For Newbury Park residents, the Miller Family YMCA will launch its new Trailblazer program for fathers and their children from 1 to 4 p.m. Sun., Sept. 13 at the Miller Family YMCA, Paraiso shopping center, Via Las Brisas in Dos Vientos.
