If cops wrote more tickets, maybe we would drive better
Nobody likes getting a ticket. They’re costly and time consuming. They’re embarrassing. They remind us that we’re not perfect (just in case we needed a gentle reminder about that .)
Motorists who travel Avenida de Los Arboles from the 23 Freeway to Moorpark Road (or vice versa) should be aware by now that a patrol officer likes to sit near a certain stop sign and nab drivers for making rolling stops.
He often plays the same card at another stop sign closer to Moorpark Road. At both locations he seems to be busy with his citation book, either because drivers are ignorant or they’re forgetful or there’s lots of strangers cruising the north side of Thousand Oaks.
We hope he keeps writing tickets. The city needs the money.
And drivers need to be reminded about the stupidity of rolling stops.
How much time is saved by not making a complete stop? It can’t be more than a second or two. Is time that important to anyone ? And in the end, the big shot who couldn’t wait for a complete stop was forced to spend incredibly precious minutes waiting for a ticket.
Sometimes, justice truly is poetic.
There are other situations that need traffic enforcement in our fair city. Have you ever been at a busy intersection and the light turned green but left-turning motorists didn’t stop and kept turning left, long after their arrow had turned red? How selfish and rude.
Where are the tickets for those jerks? They show up every day at almost every busy intersection in T.O., Westlake Village or Newbury Park.
We love living here, but sometimes local drivers aren’t that good.
Okay, we’ll take the gloves off. We have some horrible drivers in our city.
