The debate over healthcare has gone over a cliff

An activist was at my grocery store this afternoon widening the anti-Obama tent. Obama, it seems, is not only a foreign-born, mixed-color man who’s soft on enemies, illegal immigrants and the poor, he’s apparently also a nationalistic, genocidal, worldconquering dictator seeking racial purity.

Obama has become a mutant supervillain.

I asked the activist to give me her best argument.

She said that Obama was Hitler because he was going to kill old people.

I suggested that we should shut down hospices for the same reason, and she agreed.

Perhaps she’s onto something.

Perhaps seniors hate having control over their treatment and the option of hospice care.

Perhaps they consider that to be mass murder. Perhaps what grandparents want most at the end of their lives is a blank check from their grandchildren to get every possible treatment to the bitter end, regardless of its cost or benefits. The activist is lucky to have affordable private insurance that guarantees unlimited care forever.

The activist gave me a pamphlet by Lyndon LaRouche; read it yourself, it’s a hoot.

Fans of George Bush and John McCain take heed, you can take no solace in this screed.

Bush and McCain are guilty of the same Nazi sins for which LaRouche condemns Obama: bailing out financiers.

How do financial bailouts necessarily lead to Hitler and mass murder? By his own account, LaRouche is the only one qualified to explain it to you.

This Obama-Hitler nonsense is a tantrum. While some parental Republicans are trying to have a serious healthcare debate with their neighbors, the children who didn’t get what they wanted in November are screaming obscenities.

It’s time to cheer the parents and give healthcare the serious discussion that it deserves. Chris Habecker Thousand Oaks
