Fire department saves 4 condos, 1 burns
Two people suffered from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a condominium in Newbury Park where a construction crew was cutting copper piping, a fire official said.
At 1:13 p.m. on Monday a fire was reported in the top floor of a two-story unit under construction in a five-unit condominium in the 1600 block of Calle Zafiro in Newbury Park.
No one was living in the home that was undergoing construction, but two people in another unit breathed in smoke from the fire.
They evacuated the smoky condominium and were transported to Los Robles Hospital, where they were treated for minor smoke inhalation, said firefighter Steve Kaufman, who was at the scene.
The fire in the unit that burned was severe, he said.
The smoke in the other home was cleared by fire department fans.
One ladder truck and six fire engine units responded and successfully contained the fire to the single unit, Kaufmann said.
