Children need adoptive parents
Children’s Bureau will host an
nformation meeting for prospec
ive adoptive or foster parents from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Tues., Aug. 25 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road.
Adoptive parents provide permanent homes for children who can no longer
ive with their birth families. Often foster parents choose to adopt their foster child when it is not possible for
he child to re
urn home safely.
Adults who are single or married may qualify
o become adop
ive or foster parents. Prior experience with parenting is not needed, but prospective parents do need to be pa
ient, loving and willing to learn about the needs of the child in
heir care.
Parents must also be able to provide a safe and nurturing home
hat has adequate space and complies with child safety regulations. Income must be sufficient to meet family needs; however, financial assistance is provided to care for both foster and adoptive children. The entire process, including free home study and training, takes about four months or can take longer, depending on the type of child a family desires. Children’s Bureau providethe informationservices and support needed throughout the adoption procesand after the final papers are signed. The bureau has a high
success rate ofamilies staying together because of a comprehensive approach to matching families with children, 24-hour supportweekly social worker visits, support groups, mentors, post-adoption services and more.
Children’s Bureau does not charge a fee for an adoption.
