Sam’s splendid summer continues with a victory at L.A. Open


PUMPED UP—Sam Querrey, a Thousand Oaks High graduate,  celebrates  a  point during Sunday’s men’s tennis final at the L.A. Open at UCLA’s Los Angeles Tennis Center. The 21year-old Querrey defeated Australia’s Carsten Ball (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) for the second Association of Tennis Professionals title of his career. For his effort, Querrey earned $100,000 and saw his ATP ranking rise to a career-best No. 26. Querrey was making his third finals appearance in as  many  weeks,  having  lost  championship  matches  at  Newport,  R.I.,  and  Indianapolis. According to AFP Worldwide, Querrey is the first American to reach at least three ATP finals in a row since Andy Roddick advanced to four straight finals during the summer of 2004.
