The Ventura County Writers Club recently announced the winners of the 2009 Poetry Contest. The club received more than 200 entries from local and international poets.

Following are the local winners:

The first-place poem in the adult category is "Renovation" by Cathryn Andresen of Camarillo.

Doris Vernon, also from Camarillo, received honorable mention for her poem "I'm Packing the Days."

In the Under 18 category, the firstplace winner is Westlake Village resident Elizabeth Riker for her poem "Being Me."

Honorable mentions went to Zoey Dew of Simi Valley for "A Beautiful Day" and Amy Lieber of Westlake Village for "Just Write."
