Universal healthcare to be discussed

A forum to discuss universal singlepayer healthcare or mandated insurance will be at 6:30 p.m. Wed., Aug. 12 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road.

Proponents of state Sen. Mark Leno's Senate Bill 810 in California and U.S. Rep. John Conyers' HR 676 in the House will discuss the issues and answer questions.

Guests will include Dr. Jo Olson, assistant professor of pediatrics at USC with a full-time practice at Los Angeles Childrens Hospital in adolescent medicine, and Dr. Susie Baldwin of Physicians for a National Health Program. Baldwin is a board-certified preventive medicine/public health physician and a proponent of single-payer healthcare.

Ellen Lubic, public policy specialist, college lecturer, academic writer and editor, and past member of County Human Relations Commission, will also speak.

Emmy-winning producer Don Schroeder will show his new video "California One Care: Full Care, For All, For Less."

The event is sponsored by Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles, the Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley and other allied groups and clubs.

The forum is open to the public at no charge.
