Try your hand at writing fiction
If you have a knack for writing, we invite you to put your creative juices to work in our annual Acorn contest, "Fiction in a Nutshell."
Here's how it works:
In 100 words or less, write a fictional story and e-mail it to steve@theacorn.com.Send it by mail to the address on page 4 if you're not connected to the Internet. Include your name, address, age and phone number. This information must be included or the entry cannot be accepted.
Make it sci-fi, drama, adventure, romance or anything fictitious. You'll be judged on writing, creativity and topic. Remember, no more than 100 words, fiction only- - nothing from the real world- - and no poetry. Only one entry per person.
"Fiction in a Nutshell" winners will be announced in two categories: under 18 and age 18 and older. Each winner will receive a $50 prize and their story will be printed.
All entries must be received by Fri., Aug. 7. Winners will be announced on a dark and stormy morning, Thurs., Aug. 27.
