Little League tourneys in full swing
      District 13 Little League AllStar action is under way throughout the county. Thousand Oaks Little League, at 1500 Hillcrest Drive, is hosting the 9 and 10yearold tournament. The youngsters are playing a nineteam doubleelimination format, with the championship set to be settled July 15 or 16, depending on who wins the previous day, at 5 p.m.

Surf contest at Point Mugu
      The second annual Point Mugu Surf Contest is scheduled for Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, and everyone is invited. Registration for the event is open through July 17. The contest takes place Aug. 22-23. The event is open to the public to enter and watch. The official entry form is on the NBVC website at www.cnic.navy.

Lightning to play for IBL title
      The Los Angeles Lightning will take on the Oregon Waves for the International Basketball League championship on Sat., July 18 at 7:15 p.m. The title-game site is to be determined. Last week, Los Angeles won the IBL American Conference crown with a 132-121 victory over the Bellingham Slam of Washington.

T.O. Flyers salute outgoing club president
      The Thousand Oaks Flyers recently honored outgoing board president Bob McCarter. McCarter founded the T.O. Flyers track and field club nearly 30 years ago and has been on the board since its inception. He is presently the head coach for the Youth/Intermediate girls' team. In addition to his involvement with the club, McCarter also coaches at Thousand Oaks High.

High school ballplayers stay sharp in summer
Westlake, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park competing in baseball league
      Royal High third baseman Billy Conard views summer baseball as an opportunity to establish himself as a team leader for the Highlanders. Dalton Saberhagen, a pitcher for the Calabasas Coyotes, is focused on winning each and every game his squad plays, thus helping to craft a positive culture around the CHS program for the 2010 regular season.

All-Stars set to shine
      The Valley Invitational Baseball League will play a pair of All-Star games Saturday at Birmingham High. Game times are set for 3 and 6:30 p.m. Local participants include Jordan Brower, Michael Dennis, Nick Lovullo and Jimmie Sherfy of Newbury Park, as well as Taylor Kahanowitch and Blake Yuckurt from Westlake.
