Pooches march

2009-07-09 / Pets

Wags for Wellness, the 12th annual Pooch Parade Dog Walk and Pet Expo, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., July 19 at San Buenaventura State Beach, Ventura.

The event is a fundraiser for the Canine Adoption and Rescue League and its program for homeless dogs, the Project Second Chance Adoption Program.

After the fundraising dog walk along the Ventura Beach Promenade, participants may watch pet demonstrations, take part in dog contests, bid at a silent auction, shop with petrelated vendors and learn about adoptions with local rescue groups.

Walkers are asked to raise pledges for the adoption program. Individuals and teams of four or more may compete for prizes.

Last year's event raised more than $50,000.

Canine Adoption and Rescue League is a Ventura Countybased nonprofit dog and puppy rescue and placement organization founded in 1996.
