      My 5-year-old son recently asked if he could be a loser. Let me back up a bit. About a month ago, my wife decided to walk in a community run. She was very excited to participate—as long as she could drag me along.

Eagle Scout helps school
      TRUSTWORTHY- As a member of Troop No. 745 in Westlake Village, Thomas Manfredonia has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his project, Tom wanted to support his school, St. Jude the Apostle, so with the help of friends and family he landscaped the entire rear area of the school.

Scout project targets NPHS
      LOYAL- - Kevin Staley led an Eagle Scout project involving fellow Scouts, friends and family that completely remodeled the storage room at the Newbury Park High School visual arts department. The hardworking group removed 30 years of clutter and painted walls and installed free-standing shelves. The project was completed in two days and involved 154 volunteer hours.

Eagle good deed at Banyan
      HELPFUL- Tom Woolley has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest in Scouting. For his project, Tom organized the construction and installation of flower boxes and trellises for Banyan Elementary School. He was sponsored by the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge No. 2477. Tom, 18, attended Newbury Park High School and is now a student at Moorpark College.
