Enjoy a bit of the Bard

2009-07-02 / Dining & Entertainment

Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival, a professional nonprofit theater company, will conclude its 13th season with its first production of "All's Well That Ends Well" with performances at 8 p.m. July 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, and 31, and Aug. 1 and 2 at Kingsmen Park at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

The presentation marks Brett Elliott's debut as a director with the festival, although he has directed several productions for the Kingsmen Shakespeare Company educational tour.

Elliott, the Kingsmen's associate artistic director, acted in the company's first production and continued to perform nearly every season. Elliott has directed and choreographed fights for the festival and for many Los Angeles area theater companies.

The comedy is one of the Bard's least performed plays. When Bertram, a new count, is forced to marry Helena, a woman whom he does not love, he flees by going off to war. Helena devises a plan to get Bertram back.

The festival grounds open at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking.

Preshow entertainment featuring Renaissance music, comic Shakespearean improvisation and magicians and jugglers begins at 6:45 p.m.

Admission is $15 and free for those under 18. Reserved lawn box seating is $60 to $75.

The production is outdoors. Patrons should dress warmly and bring a low-back chair or blanket for lawn seating.
