Firefighting resources could be in danger from statewide budget cuts
The greatest risk, officials say, would be during the brushfire season when fire departments pool their resources
      Although demand for services is growing, the Ventura County Fire Department will lose money if the state budget slashes cash from local coffers. The department, managed by Ventura County Fire District, serves six cities and all of the unincorporated areas in the county.

      The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation will host former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at 6 p.m. Tues., July 14 at the Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley. Rice will deliver remarks at the Perspectives on Leadership Forum.

Sherwood Lake Club will host a golf tournament
      The HomeAid Los Angeles/ Ventura Golf Classic 2009 will be at the Sherwood Lake Club Wed., July 22. The event is open to 18 foursomes. Reservations are requested by Fri., July 17. The cost is $175 per person, $700 per foursome. Registration will be from noon to 1 p.m., and the shotgun start will be at 1:30 p.m., best ball format.

Farmers market returns 'home'
      CELEBRITY VISITS THE OAKS- McGruff the Crime Dog helps the Thousand Oaks Farmers Market celebrate its return to The Oaks mall during last month's grand reopening. Shoppers enjoyed various activities, and the Thousand Oaks Police Department took free child and senior citizen fingerprints and provided information on home security. The market is open from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.

City of Thousand Oaks works with Many Mansions on affordable housing
      To allow for the construction of a 60unit multifamily affordable housing project, the City Council voted 4-0 in favor of a change in the city's General Plan from low-density residential to medium-density residential. Councilmember Dennis Gillette was absent from the recent City Council/redevelopment agency public hearing on land use.

Boy hit by car is improving
      A 7-year-old bicyclist who suffered serious head injuries after colliding with a car a month ago is now walking and talking. The boy, who had been in a coma and in critical condition, was on a respirator until two weeks ago. Although he breathed on his own after being taken off the respirator, he was still unconscious. Now he's awake and recovering.

      The Ventura County Fire Department reminds residents that the safe and legal way to enjoy fireworks this Fourth of July is at a professional public display. Fireworks of all kinds are illegal in Camarillo, Moorpark, Ojai, Port Hueneme, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and the unincorporated areas of Ventura County.

T.O. Arts Festival calls for vendors
      Ventura County visual artists can enter the sixth annual Thousand Oaks Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Sept. 26 and 27 at T.O. Civic Arts Plaza's Mary and Richard Carpenter Park, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., and at The Lakes, the adjacent shopping center.
