Fashionable eyewear helpful to kids
      Kids who wear glasses used to be easy targets for the classroom bully. Today, they're making as much of a fashion statement as an improvement to their vision. "Only a small percentage of children who have to wear glasses are disappointed about it," says Dr. Amy Walker, an optometrist with the University of Wisconsin Department of Ophthalmology.

      BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS GIVE THOUSAND OAKS A MAKEOVER— Twenty-eight staff members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Conejo Valley & Las Virgenes and other volunteers recently planted trees and placed wood chips along a parkway on Avenida de Los Arboles during a city of Thousand Oaks service project.

Shakespearean actors lead kids' camp
      The Kingsmen Shakespeare Company will present its 24th annual Summer Theatre Camp at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. All workshops are open to youths ages 8 to 16 and will run Monday through Friday on the following dates.

      The Conejo Valley YMCA, Triunfo YMCA and Simi Valley Family YMCA will offer teen summer camps through August 21. •The Conejo Valley YMCA, serving Thousand Oaks and Moorpark, and the Simi Valley Family YMCA are both hosting Teen Extreme day camps for sixth- through eighth-graders.
