Women's club awards scholarships

The Scholarship Committee of the Westlake Women's Club has awarded $14,100 in college scholarships to graduating seniors from Conejo Valley high schools.

Chosen from all seven schools this year as the recipient of the Karen Rufener Scholarship was Nadia Safaeinili of Thousand Oaks High School.

Nadia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ali Safaeinili, ranks near the top of a graduating class of 647 students. Active in community and school activities, she was chosen as volunteer of the year by the city of Thousand Oaks. A National Merit Scholar, she also received recognition by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

Additional Westlake Women's Club scholarships were awarded to Rebecca Ann Wong from Agoura High School, Brianna Fischer from Oak Park High School, Alex Sookikian from Newbury Park High School, Emily Rossignol of Thousand Oaks High School and Shannon O'Connor of Westlake High School.

Outstanding students from Conejo Valley continuation schools were also recognized.

Presentation of the scholarships to the recipients were made by members of the Westlake Women's Club during the award ceremonies at the various schools. The presenters were Karen Bradley, Cate Brown, Ruth Diehl, Liz Lightfoot, Karen Oxrider, Helene Ross and Doris Rufener.
