Gustavo Reynoso Gustavo Reynoso of Conejo Valley High School is the winner of the first Manzanita scholarship, awarded to a former Manzanita Elementary student who has excelled in high school. The soonto-be-closed elementary school has inaugurated an annual scholarship for its students.

Gustavo, 19, was also a leadership representative for his class.

Gustavo most enjoyed math and history classes in high school, and he thanks his teachers—including Mr. Keller, Ms. Jones, Mr. Mae, Mr. King, Mr. Smith, Mr. Kiwii and Mr. Watson—for their determination and patience with him.

"They never gave up on me, even when I lost my temper or got frustrated," Gustavo said.

Gustavo plans to attend college for two years and then join the United States Marines. He hopes to eventually work for the sheriff's department in the gangs or narcotics units.

Gustavo is the son of Miriam de Leon.
