Local school graduates 20 nurses
      Twenty nursing students successfully completed 185 hours of nurse's assistant training at Professional Medical Careers Institute and received their CNA pins on June 15 at the Grant Brimhall/ Thousand Oaks Library in Thousand Oaks.

      Jordan Alatorre graduated six months early but took the stage at Century High School's graduation last week. Jordan is the Star Scholar award winner and was named top scholar—Century's version of valedictorian—of his graduating class.

      Jenny Qiu, 18, of Newbury Park High School credits her mother for helping her live through high school. She was a National Merit Scholar and the highest senior scorer on Academic Decathlon. She also was the lighting/designer/manager of the NPHS technical theater and the president of the Academic Decathlon, and she was on the track team.

      Elizabeth Workman has balanced athletics, academics and service. The 18-year-old was the No. 1 singles player on the tennis team all four years at La Reina. She was also named the team's most valuable player in 2005, 2007 and 2008, and was team captain her junior and senior years.

Women's club awards scholarships
      The Scholarship Committee of the Westlake Women's Club has awarded $14,100 in college scholarships to graduating seniors from Conejo Valley high schools. Chosen from all seven schools this year as the recipient of the Karen Rufener Scholarship was Nadia Safaeinili of Thousand Oaks High School.
