Former Arkansas governor to speak at Reagan Library
      Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will appear in a Reagan Forum and Book Signing at 6 p.m. Mon., June 29 at the Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley. Huckabee is the host of "Huckabee" on the Fox News Channel and appears on the "Huckabee Report" on the ABC Radio Network. He is the author of six books.

Boy, 7, still in critical condition
      There's been a change in the condition of a 7-year-old boy who was struck by a car while riding a bike without a helmet, said traffic Sgt. Robert Fleming on Tuesday. The child has a serious head injury and remains unconscious, but he's off the ventilator and is breathing on his own.

Two public hearings on council agenda
      The Thousand Oaks City Council has announced two public hearings scheduled for the Tues., June 23 meeting. It's possible the council will modify requirements for issuing film permits during one of them. Currently, there must be 100 percent approval by those within a 500foot radius of a film location.

      The age 50 and older singles group will host Dr. James Barrass on Thurs., July 23 at the Goebel Senior Center. The day of the week was incorrect last week, although the date was correct. His topic will be hormone/ estrogen deficiency.

Faded, torn and tattered flags retired
      SOLEMN CEREMONY— The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge No. 2477 retires American flags that are worn out or discolored during a ceremony on Flag Day. The Elks accept American flags that are faded, torn or tattered at their lodge, 158 N. Conejo School Road, during the entire year. For more information about the Elks, call (805) 496-2477. Elks invite all to community barbecue
      The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge will host a greet, meet and eat community barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., June 27 at the lodge, 158 Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. Members and officers of the patriotic fraternal organization will be available for facility tours and to answer questions and provide a better understanding of the role Elks play in the community.

It's Magna Carta's last weekend
      The Magna Carta, which has been on display at the Reagan Library since January, will return to Lincolnshire, England, on Mon. June 22. The public can view the document from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day through June 21 at the Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley.

More than 250 guests came to honor the contributions of teenage volunteers and their work with special needs children and their families.
