Marmonte League's spring standouts honored
      The Marmonte League announced its All-League teams for spring sports. Drew Sandler of the Simi Valley High baseball team was named Player of the Year. Cody Buckel of Royal and Landon Hunt of Moorpark were named Co-Pitchers of the Year, while Simi Valley skipper Matt La Belle earned Coach of the Year honors.

      Next month, Grace Brethren senior wide receiver Travis Sproat is scheduled to enter boot camp at Camp Pendleton as a member of the United States Marine Corps. The diminutive playmaker, listed at 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, has already requested a rapid deploy and expects to be stationed overseas later this year.

      For the first time in school history, Westlake High qualified for the CIF State Boys Golf Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course. The state tournament was held Wednesday morning at the famous Pebble Beach links.

Westlake seniors forgo volleyball final for prom
Decision draws criticism from CIF
      It certainly was a strange ending to a highly successful season for the Westlake High boys' volleyball team. The Warriors took on Loyola last Saturday night in the final of the inaugural Division I CIF Southern California Regional Volleyball Championships without their seniors, who were attending the school's prom on the same evening.

Montana commits to Washington
      Oaks Christian quarterback Nick Montana has made a verbal commitment to play football at the University of Washington. Montana, who will be a senior for the Lions next season, completed 133-of-241 passes for 2,404 yards and 33 touchdowns during his junior campaign.

Track talent makes final stop at state meet
      Thousand Oaks High's Lydia French was one of several local athletes to take part in last weekend's CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High at Clovis. French, however, didn't clear 5-foot-4 in the girls' high jump, ending her solid postseason run.
