      Singles 50+ will meet from 6 to 7.30 p.m. Mon., July 23 at the Goebel Senior Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Dr. James Barrass will speak about hormone/estrogen deficiency and what nutrient is missing to prevent its production.

Students learn about giving by doing
      For the third year in a row, the second-graders of Lang Ranch Elementary School in Thousand Oaks have raised money for library books for the children at Casa Pacifica. Casa Pacifica, located on a 23 acre property in Camarillo, serves abused, neglected and severely emotionally disturbed children from the Tri-County area of Southern California.

      FUN AND FITNESS— Emma Ballen, left, and Brian Lee, both 10, get all tangled up during a game of Twister. University Elementary School hosted its Grand Finale Carnival of the Everlasting Stars last Friday. The event included inflatable games, train rides and snow cones. The school will shut down at the end of this semester.

      Aurora Griffin, Oaks Christian's valedictorian, was the orchestra's first chair viola for four years, a member of the National Honor Society, a National Charity League debutante and founder of the Interscholastic Equestrian League Club.

      Lindsay Adamski, a resident of Thousand Oaks who was awarded a bachelor's degree magna cum laude at Providence College commencement ceremonies in May, was recently honored for her academic achievements.

      In the fall Stanford University will get new student Claudia Lopez, an accomplished student from Westlake High School who is going to major in human biology as a premedical student. The 17-year-old has been awarded a Gold Award and is a scholar athlete.
