Coyotes were here before us and deserve respect
I applaud Maryjane MacLeod on her letter regarding coyotes.
I live in Wildwood off of Lynn Road, not far from the new University Village senior home by Cal Lutheran University.
When they built there, they blocked off a wildlife corridor, which would allow the coyotes to go back up into the hill, with a wrought-iron fence from Campus Drive to a resident's block walls. Now I've seen two coyotes stand on Lynn Road by what used to be their path of going back to where they belong.
The city should get responsible people back out here to rectify this situation ASAP as a matter of public and pet safety and wildlife preservation.
Remember, the coyotes were here before us. I'm frankly tired of seeing all these signs of missing pets put up around the city by negligent or uninformed pet owners.
People need to realize where they live and protect their pets from coyotes, which are out day and night. Hawks fly during the day and they love small animals, as do owls at night.
I'm tired, too, of seeing dead coyotes and raccoons killed on local streets and roads. It happens far too often now that we have more people living here.
Remember, coyotes and all the wild animals depend on us to protect them, and they don't have a voice when it comes to voting for city officials, but we the people in this community have that power to vote them in or out of office. Mary Troness Thousand Oaks
