Local teens become national paintball champions
Nick Sweeny, Scott Dulgeroff and Michael Khalil Paintball players Scott Dulgeroff and Michael Khalil of Thousand Oaks and Nick Sweeney of Oak Park won the National Collegiate Paintball Association Southern California Regional High School Championship this spring.
Their team earned $1,000, which they used toward airfare, to participate in the national competition in Lakeland, Fla., in April. At this event the team won third place out of 20 participating high school three-man teams from around the country.
The boys, who all attend Oaks Christian School, have been playing paintball on weekends for the past five years while also participating in sports at the school.
Nick and Scott, both juniors, also play on a Division I professional level paintball team sponsored by Rock Star Energy Drink.
Michael, a freshman, plans to join the professional team this year.
