Voting was close at the recent eight annual Margarita Mix-off at the Conejo Creek Park in Thousand Oaks. With only a few votes separating the top five restaurants, the Alamo Mexican Restaurant, Newbury Park and Agoura, won the People's Choice Award for the third year in a row.

The event, sponsored by Soroptimist International of the Conejo, was attended by almost 300 people.

Eleven local restaurants served sample margaritas and hors d'oeuvres and also provided entertainment at each of the decorated booths.

Marcy Shewmon and Sue Gore were event chairs.

Trio Amore, a strolling group of mariachis, provided music, and Irish John Gore was the master of ceremonies.

Other winners were best entertainment and best presentation, Cafe Firenze of Moorpark; best margarita on the rocks, Limon Bar and Grill of Simi Valley; best blended margarita, Borderline of Thousand Oaks; best appetizers, Sagebrush Cantina of Calabasas; and best decorated booth, Chili's of Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura.

Other participating restaurants were Holdren's Steak House of Newbury Park, Money Pancho of Camarillo, Tierra Rejada Golf Club of Moorpark and Elephant Bar of Simi Valley.

Soroptimist, a group of professional women, will donate proceeds from the event back to the local community.
