Newbury Park High senior Charles Benton was named MVP of the East-West Ventura County Basketball Coaches Association boys' All-Star game last weekend.

Benton led the East squad to a 106-101 victory at Ventura High. The Panther collected 20 points, four rebounds and a blocked shot.

The West girls' team defeated the East, 81-73.

Newbury Park girls' basketball coach Nori Parvin, who won her 500th career game this season, earned Coach of the Year honors.
