Bird watchers to host picnic
The Conejo Valley Audubon Society will host its annual picnic Sat., June 6 at the old Janss House on Greenmeadow Avenue off S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. There will be a bird walk at 8 a.m.
The picnic is a potluck. Those with last names that begin with the letters A through J should bring a main dish; last names K through P should bring a dessert, and Q through Z should bring a salad. Guests should provide their own chairs, table service and drinks.
Birding trips for June:
•Sun., June 21 Pine Mountain. Meet at Las Posas ParkAnd-Ride at 7:30 a.m. Bring jacket, lunch and water for a trip up 33 to Pine Mountain campground. Will look for greentailed towhee, purple finches, Clark's nutcrackers, whiteheaded woodpeckers, pygmy nuthatches and others. Leader is Tom Halpin, (805) 746-4598.
•Sat., June 27 Sierra Vista. Meet at Sierra Vista at 8 a.m. See neotropical migrants: lazuli bunting, blue grosbeak, orioles and others. Leader is Rich Congersky, (805) 558-2297.
