Chabad to host gala banquet
Chabad of the Conejo will celebrate its 30th anniversary at its annual gala banquet, 5:30 p.m. Wed., June 10 at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel, 21850 Oxnard St., Woodland Hills.
The theme is "Gateway to the Future." The gala will be followed by a concert featuring Broadway singer Jordan Bennett and comedian Mark Schiff.
Chabad will pay tribute to three honorees. Renee Overton will be the guest of honor. Mark and Renee Horwitz will receive the Community Leadership Award, and Hal and Judy Standel will be given the Chesed Award.
In addition, a memorial tribute will be offered in the memory of Evelyn Overton.
Chabad will announce at the gala the formal start to the construction of its new campus in Agoura Hills and the timetable for completion.
Chabad of the Conejo operates a network of educational and social services throughout Ventura County.
Chabad opened in 1979 in a small office in Westlake Village and now operates six synagogues and the Mei Menachem Mikvas Devorah, the first mikvah (ritual bath) in the Conejo Valley.
Chabad has also founded the Friendship Circle, a program for children with special needs and their families, and the Sunshine Club for senior citizens. This program will be formally dedicated at the banquet as the Evelyn Overton Sunshine Club.
